Bitget vs Binance (2026): Fees, Safety, Regions and Which Suits You

October 15, 2026 by Michael Johnson

Quick answer
Bitget and Binance both charge a standard 0.1% spot fee. Regular futures fees are 0.02% maker / 0.05% taker on Binance and 0.02% / 0.06% on Bitget. Bitget lost about 387.5 million dollars in a 24 September 2026 incident and says user balances were unaffected. Neither lists a MiCA licence, the EU’s crypto licence. US residents can’t use Bitget, and Binance serves them only through the separate Binance.US. Futures are high-risk.

Availability: US residents can’t use Bitget, and for Binance they are served by the separate Binance.US (Binance.US state list, June 2026). Bitget’s Terms of Use (updated 15 September 2026, checked 14 October 2026) also prohibit Canada, France, Germany, Austria, Thailand and other places. Check each exchange’s rules for your country, and never use a VPN to get around them.

Bitget vs Binance at a glance

Binance vs Bitget comes down to futures fees, emergency funds, Bitget’s 2026 incident and where each accepts users. Both are centralized exchanges, companies that run the platform and hold your coins. Binance launched in July 2017 (Binance About, checked 14 October 2026), Bitget in 2018 (Bitget blog, May 2024).

Spot trading means buying a coin outright. Futures are contracts that bet on a price going up or down, usually with leverage (borrowed money).

Bitget vs Binance fees

Standard spot fees are the same: 0.1% for makers and takers. A maker’s order waits in the order book, the list of open buy and sell orders. A taker fills an order that is already there.

USDT is a stablecoin pegged to 1 US dollar. A 1,000 USDT spot trade costs 1 USDT in fees on either exchange. Paying in BNB cuts that to 0.75 USDT on Binance, and paying in BGB cuts it to 0.80 USDT on Bitget (Bitget fee schedule, checked 15 October 2026). Neither of our referral codes changes these rates.

⚠️ Watch out: Futures and leverage can wipe out your margin, the money backing a position, very quickly. Liquidation means the exchange closes your position and that margin is lost.

Which is safer, Bitget or Binance?

No exchange is free of risk. Bitget had a major security incident in September 2026, while Binance’s SAFU page says Binance has reported no major user-fund hack since 2019 (Binance Academy, updated 13 October 2026).

Bitget’s September 2026 incident

At 18:31 UTC on 24 September 2026, Bitget detected unauthorized transfers from some of its hot wallets, the online wallets used for daily withdrawals (Bitget security notice). It puts the loss at about 387.5 million dollars (incident update, checked 14 October 2026).

Bitget says user balances were unaffected and its Protection Fund covered the loss (fund update, 30 September 2026). Withdrawals fully reopened, in phases, by 2 October (completion notice, checked 14 October 2026). Single networks can still pause for wallet maintenance, so check the coin’s withdrawal page before you send. Our Bitget exchange guide has the full timeline.

Proof of Reserves: the latest snapshots

Proof of Reserves (PoR) compares the coins an exchange holds with its users’ deposits. A reserve ratio of 100% means 1 dollar held per 1 dollar of user assets.

On both, you can check that your own balance was counted. They use a Merkle tree, a kind of digital fingerprint of every user’s balance. Each is a self-published snapshot, so treat it as one signal among several.

Emergency funds: SAFU and the Protection Fund

  • Binance SAFU. Binance set it up in July 2018. It holds about 1 billion US dollars in Bitcoin, kept by a regulated company in Abu Dhabi. Binance has promised to top it up if it falls below about 800 million dollars (Binance Academy, checked 14 October 2026).
  • Bitget Protection Fund. Set up in 2022 with 300 million dollars, it paid for the September loss and was refilled. On 14 October 2026, it showed about 303 million dollars, held as 3,705 BTC (fund page). Bitget assesses each claim itself.

Both funds are held in Bitcoin, so their dollar values move with the BTC price. Both are the exchanges’ own money, not government deposit insurance.

Good to know: Ignore any message offering a “refund” for Bitget’s incident or asking you to send crypto to “activate” a bonus. Bitget never sends unsolicited requests for funds (Bitget, July 2025), and Binance never asks you to move funds for security (Binance, February 2025). Never share your password or the 2FA login code from your phone.

Licences and regions: who can use Binance or Bitget

Neither exchange lists a MiCA licence, so where you live decides first. Binance says its exchange is regulated by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of ADGM, Abu Dhabi’s financial centre.

Binance still serves some EU customers from Abu Dhabi under reverse solicitation. That rule lets a firm without an EU licence serve customers who come to it on their own. ESMA, the EU’s markets watchdog, and regulators in France, Germany and Greece are examining how Binance uses it (Euronews, 1 October 2026). Binance says it is working towards MiCA authorisation.

Bitget’s licence page (checked 14 October 2026) lists nine places, including Australia and the UK, but no EU country. In the UK, a firm approved by the FCA, the UK regulator, signs off Bitget’s adverts. That is not FCA authorisation of Bitget itself. ASIC, Australia’s markets regulator, warns that Bitget’s crypto futures are unlicensed there (ASIC alert).

Good to know: Never use a VPN or someone else’s documents to get around these rules. Bitget’s Terms forbid it, and so does Binance’s KYC FAQ (June 2026).

Do Binance and Bitget both require KYC?

Yes. KYC (Know Your Customer) is the identity check an exchange runs before you can use it fully. Both ask for a government ID and a face scan, and both allow one verified personal account per person.

BinanceBitget
When it’s requiredBefore you trade or deposit cryptoFor core services, since 1 January 2024

Before your first deposit, turn on 2FA (a second login code from your phone) and set an anti-phishing code, a code shown in the exchange’s genuine emails. Bitget adds a fund code, an extra password for withdrawals (fund code guide, January 2025).

⚠️ Watch out: When you deposit or withdraw, pick the same network on both sides. The network is the blockchain the coin travels on, such as TRC-20 (Tron) for USDT. Some coins also need a memo or tag, an extra ID for the receiving account. Send a small test amount first.

How do Binance Welcome Rewards and the Bitget Welcome Pack compare?

Both are the exchanges’ own programs, paid as vouchers or trading bonuses, not withdrawable cash. Both figures are ceilings: you only get rewards for tasks you complete. Bitget’s headline figure is larger, but its bigger tiers depend on how much you deposit and trade, often in futures. UK rules ban incentives like these, so UK readers can skip this.

Bitget rewards must be claimed by hand within 2 days after a 3-day monitoring period, or they expire. Don’t trade more, or trade futures, just to earn a reward: fees and losses can cost more than the reward returns.

What do our codes A6969 and 56969 do?

They link a new account to us. A6969 adds no bonus, rebate or discount, and 56969 comes with no promised bonus, rebate or airdrop.

  • Binance A6969 is a Referral Pro code. Binance pays the inviter a share of the new user’s trading fees, and we pass 0% of that back. Signing up with no code gives the same Welcome Rewards eligibility; only Referral Lite sign-ups lose it. See our Binance referral code guide.
  • Bitget 56969 is an affiliate code we share through a Bitget partner link. Bitget may pay us part of the fees you pay anyway. The Welcome Pack is Bitget’s own program, and its rules don’t list a code. See how Bitget referral and affiliate codes differ.

If you want to support us, enter the code before you finish sign-up:

  • Binance: A6969 in the Referral ID field, or our Binance sign-up link.
  • Bitget: 56969 in the Referral code field, or our Bitget sign-up link.

Our codes work on the exchanges only, not in their self-custody wallet apps, Binance Wallet and Bitget Wallet.

Bitget or Binance: which one suits you?

Neither is the better choice for everyone, so start with where you live.

  • You live in the US: Bitget is prohibited. For Binance, use the separate Binance.US.
  • You live in India and are new: Binance is available; Bitget paused new sign-ups on 6 February 2026.
  • You live in the EU: neither lists a MiCA licence, and both have left France.
  • You mostly buy and hold: the same 0.1% spot fee, cut by 25% with BNB on Binance or by 20% with BGB on Bitget.
  • You plan to trade futures (high risk): the regular taker fee is 0.05% on Binance and 0.06% on Bitget.
  • You want to practise first: both offer demo trading, Binance for spot and futures in some regions, Bitget for futures.

What to do next

  1. Check both exchanges’ rules for your country: Bitget’s prohibited list, and Binance.US if you live in the US. Skip any exchange that doesn’t serve you.
  2. If you sign up and want to support us, enter A6969 in Binance’s Referral ID field or 56969 in Bitget’s Referral code field before you finish. Then complete KYC, turn on 2FA and set an anti-phishing code.
  3. Start with spot or Convert and a small test deposit on the matching network. Leave futures alone until you understand leverage and liquidation.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bitget or Binance better for beginners?

It depends first on where you live. Both charge a standard 0.1% spot fee, require KYC and offer demo trading, Binance’s in some regions only. Binance has a larger emergency fund and a lower regular futures taker fee. Bitget lost about 387.5 million dollars in a September 2026 incident and says user balances were unaffected. Futures are high-risk on both.

Is Bitget safe after the September 2026 hack?

No exchange is free of risk. On 24 September 2026, about 387.5 million dollars was taken from Bitget’s hot wallets. Bitget says user balances were unaffected and its Protection Fund covered the loss. Withdrawals fully reopened on 2 October. Its 29 September reserve snapshot showed a 131% total ratio.

Which has lower fees, Bitget or Binance?

Spot fees are the same: 0.1% for makers and takers on both. Both discount spot fees paid with their own coin: 25% with BNB on Binance, and 20% with BGB on Bitget. Regular futures fees are 0.02% maker / 0.05% taker on Binance and 0.02% / 0.06% on Bitget. Futures carry a high risk of loss.

Why can’t US citizens use Binance or Bitget?

US residents can’t use Bitget, because its Terms of Use list the United States as a prohibited country. For Binance, US residents are served by Binance.US, a separate platform with state-by-state rules. Never use a VPN or someone else’s documents to get around these rules.

Do Binance and Bitget publish Proof of Reserves?

Yes. Binance’s snapshot of 1 October 2026 showed 100.35% for BTC and 103.88% for USDT. Bitget’s snapshot of 29 September 2026 showed 131% in total. Both let logged-in users check that their own balance was counted. The exchanges publish these reports themselves.

Are Binance and Bitget available in the EU?

Partly, and neither lists a MiCA licence. Both have left France, and Bitget also prohibits Germany and Austria. Binance serves some EU customers from its Abu Dhabi entity, and EU regulators were questioning that in October 2026. Check each exchange’s rules for your country first.

Do referral codes A6969 or 56969 give a bonus?

No. Binance A6969 shares 0% commission, and signing up without a code gives the same Welcome Rewards eligibility. Bitget 56969 is an affiliate code with no promised bonus, fee rebate or airdrop. Both welcome programs are run by the exchanges themselves, separately from our codes.

Every figure comes from the exchanges’ own pages or the news and regulator pages linked. Fees, welcome programs, reserves, funds, incident updates and regional rules were re-checked on 14 October 2026.
