Bitget Wallet in 2026: How It Differs From the Bitget Exchange, Safe Download, Setup and Safety

October 13, 2026 by Michael Johnson

Quick answer
Bitget Wallet is a self-custody crypto wallet app, called BitKeep until 2023, and it is separate from the Bitget exchange. You control the keys, so Bitget Wallet can’t recover a lost seed phrase (your backup words) or reverse a transfer. Download it only through web3.bitget.com or its official store listings. Bitget says its September 2026 exchange incident didn’t affect the wallet. Our code 56969 works on the exchange only.

Disclosure: YODA COIN may earn a commission if you sign up with our referral code or link, at no extra cost to you. Read our disclaimer.

Availability: Bitget Wallet’s Terms of Use (updated 22 September 2026) require you to be at least 18. They bar sanctioned places such as North Korea, Iran, Cuba, Syria and Crimea, and also Singapore. The Bitget exchange prohibits a longer list, including the US, Canada, France, Germany and Thailand (Bitget Terms of Use, 15 September 2026).

What is the difference between Bitget Wallet and the Bitget exchange?

Bitget Wallet is a self-custody wallet, and the Bitget exchange is a custodial trading platform. Self-custody means you hold the private key, the secret that controls the coins at your wallet address. Its backup is the seed phrase, a set of random words that can rebuild your keys. On an exchange, the company holds the coins and you log in to an account.

Two companies run them. BGW Technology Limited operates Bitget Wallet (Bitget Wallet Terms, September 2026), and BTG Technology Holdings Limited operates the exchange. The wallet started in 2018 as BitKeep. It took the Bitget Wallet name in 2023, after Bitget invested in it (Bitget Wallet blog, 2026).

Sources: Bitget Wallet security page and Bitget KYC FAQ (April 2024). KYC is an identity check, and 2FA is a second login code from your phone.

How do you download Bitget Wallet and the Bitget app safely?

Get each app from its own official download page, or from the store listing it links to. We checked these on 12 and 13 October 2026.

  1. Type the address yourself. Bitget Wallet warns that the top search ad for “Bitget Wallet” may be a fake site. Fake domains use lookalike spellings, so check every letter of web3.bitget.com (Bitget Wallet scam guide, checked 12 October 2026).
  2. Open the store from that page. Check the publisher name against the table before you install. On 13 October 2026, the page’s App Store button opened a listing that didn’t load. If that happens, open the App Store listing directly, or search for Bitget Wallet and check the publisher is BitKeep Global Inc. The app’s name varies by country.
  3. Prefer the store to an APK. An APK is an Android app file installed outside Google Play. Take one only from the official download page, never from a chat or an ad.
  4. Check any APK before you install it. If your phone or Google Play Protect says a file is harmful, don’t install it. Bitget Wallet’s APK verification page checks a file’s SHA256 fingerprint, a code unique to that file, for app version 7.3.6 and newer.
  5. Secure the exchange account. Turn on 2FA and set an anti-phishing code, which Bitget shows in its genuine emails (Bitget official channel check, July 2025). Then set a fund code for withdrawals (fund code guide, January 2025).

Note (12 October 2026): this video says that entering 56969 at sign-up brings invitee milestone airdrops (free tokens credited to you, here for reaching a trading target) and welcome tasks. Bitget doesn’t confirm those airdrops for affiliate codes like 56969, and the Welcome Pack rules don’t list a code.

How to set up Bitget Wallet, step by step

Setup takes a few minutes: choose a wallet type, set a passcode and back up before you add coins.

Seed phrase walletSocial login wallet
How you sign inA seed phrase that you write down and keepYour email, Google or Apple account
Where the key livesRebuilt from your seed phraseInside your phone’s secure chip area (TEE), wiped after each use
Main riskSomeone sees or steals your seed phraseYour phone, or that email, Google or Apple account, is taken over

Sources: Bitget Wallet help on social login vs seed phrase and social login vs MPC, checked 12 October 2026.

  1. Create the wallet. Open the app and choose the wallet type.
  2. Set a passcode. It approves every transfer and signature on this device. Bitget Wallet can’t recover it. If you forget it, you reinstall the app and import your seed phrase (Creating your first wallet).
  3. Back up the seed phrase now. On Home, tap “Back up now”. Write the words in the exact order on paper, and keep copies in separate safe places (How to back up seed phrase).
  4. Confirm the order. The app asks you to pick words by number. A wrong order can produce a different wallet address.
  5. Keep it off your devices. The Terms advise against screenshots, emails, notes apps and messages.
⚠️ Watch out: Never share your seed phrase or private key, and never type them into a website, form or chat. Bitget Wallet says it never asks for them, or for one-time codes, in private messages (Bitget Wallet scam guide). Whoever has your seed phrase can empty the wallet.

Moving crypto from the Bitget exchange to Bitget Wallet

Withdraw the coins on the exchange to your wallet address, on the same network. The network is the blockchain the coin travels on, for example USDT on Tron (TRC-20) or Ethereum (ERC-20). USDT is Tether, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar.

  1. Copy your receiving address. In Bitget Wallet, choose the coin and its network, then copy the matching address.
  2. Withdraw on the exchange. In the Bitget app, withdraw that coin, choose the same network and paste the address.
  3. Check, then confirm. Check the address and network once more. The exchange shows its withdrawal fee first.
  4. Wait a few minutes. Bitget Wallet says on-chain transfers usually arrive in 1 to 5 minutes (Transferring from a crypto exchange, checked 12 October 2026).

Sending from the wallet costs gas, the network fee paid in the blockchain’s own coin. For example, sending USDT on Tron needs a little TRX, and on Ethereum it needs ETH. A transfer can fail without enough of it (Swap FAQ).

⚠️ Watch out: Pick the same network on both sides. Bitget Wallet warns that a mismatch can lose your funds. Some exchange deposits also need a memo or tag, an extra ID for the receiving account. Send a small test amount first, because a confirmed transfer can’t be reversed (Sending crypto, checked 12 October 2026).

Bitget Wallet Web3 features: swaps, DApps and the card

Bitget Wallet’s Web3 side lets you swap tokens, use DApps (decentralized apps), earn rewards and spend with a card. Web3 means apps on public blockchains, where you connect a wallet instead of opening an account.

FeatureWhat it doesMain risk
Swap and bridgeTrade one token for another on-chain, or move it to another blockchainGas fees, and slippage: the price you get can differ from the quote
DAppsConnect to decentralized apps such as trading or lending sitesA fake DApp can ask for an approval that drains your tokens
EarnEarn rewards (yield) on stablecoins and other tokens through outside protocolsRates change, and the outside protocol can fail or be hacked. Bitget Wallet won’t repay staking losses from a validator failure
Bitget Wallet CardA Visa or Mastercard card that spends cryptoFees and availability depend on your region

Sources: Swap FAQ, Terms and the Google Play listing, checked 12 October 2026. Staking means locking coins to help run a blockchain, and a validator is a computer that does that work. The app also offers perps: futures-style bets with leverage (borrowed money), where a small price move can wipe out your stake (Help Center).

Good to know: On 24 September 2026, Bitget Wallet said Tatadex, an outside perps provider in the app, had paused withdrawals for maintenance. Deposits for new users were paused too. It said existing users’ assets and open positions would not be affected. We found no reopening notice on its blog on 13 October 2026 (Tatadex notice). Don’t add money to Tatadex until Bitget Wallet says withdrawals are back.

New Bitget Card applications moved to Bitget Wallet on 1 August 2026, and existing Bitget Cards work until they expire. The wallet card lists 0 dollar opening and annual fees, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay (Bitget card notice, checked 12 October 2026). Other card fees can apply, and applying needs an identity check, as the card section of the Help Center explains.

Token approvals: the setting that drains wallets

An approval lets a DApp’s smart contract (a program that runs on the blockchain) move one of your tokens, up to a limit. Bitget Wallet advises granting only what a site needs and avoiding unlimited approvals. Review them under Wallet, then “…”, then Approvals, and revoke old ones (Wallet approvals guide). Revoke them even on official sites: the 2022 swap bug described below took tokens through approvals users had given BitKeep’s own swap.

Drainer sites look like an airdrop or task page and ask you to connect and sign. The “approval” is really a contract that empties your wallet (Bitget Wallet scam guide). If you didn’t go looking for a site yourself, don’t sign anything on it.

Note (12 October 2026): this video says that an exchange sign-up with code 56969 leads to 15 dollar BGB airdrops at set trading volumes. Bitget doesn’t confirm those airdrops for affiliate codes like 56969, and the Welcome Pack rules don’t list a code.

Is Bitget Wallet safe?

Bitget Wallet has real security features, but in a self-custody wallet most of the risk sits with you. The company can’t store or retrieve your keys, freeze your wallet, or reverse a transaction (Bitget Wallet Terms, September 2026).

Bitget Wallet’s security page (checked 12 October 2026) lists these protections:

  • Passcode checks before transfers, trades and viewing a private key, with keys stored encrypted.
  • Risk alerts on known malicious addresses, DApps and phishing sites, with help from the security service Go+.
  • Audits by CertiK and SlowMist, including the core code of Bitget Swap, plus open-source swap code.

Its protection fund page describes a 300 million dollar fund that it says it shares with Bitget. It covers losses caused by the Bitget Wallet platform itself, and you must email support within 30 days.

The page doesn’t say whether this is the same Bitget Protection Fund that covered the exchange’s September loss. Bitget refilled that fund above 300 million dollars on 30 September (Bitget incident page). Either way, it is company money, not insurance, and Bitget Wallet checks each claim itself. The Terms say it isn’t responsible for losses from a leaked seed phrase, a wrong address or an unofficial app.

The record has two known incidents, both in 2022, when the wallet was still BitKeep. In October 2022, a bug in BitKeep’s own swap contract let a hacker take about 1 million dollars from users who had approved tokens on it. BitKeep said it would refund all victims (The Block, October 2022).

In December 2022, attackers hijacked downloads of its Android APK, version 7.2.9. BitKeep said thousands of users were hit and about 8 million dollars was stolen (BitKeep on X, December 2022). The fake app pulled out seed phrases, and BitKeep promised full refunds by March 2023 (The Block, January 2023).

On 24 September 2026, the Bitget exchange lost about 388 million dollars, Bitget’s final verified figure, from part of its hot and warm wallets. On 25 September, Bitget Wallet said its checks found no impact on its systems or users’ assets. Its services stayed fully operational (Bitget Wallet statement, September 2026).

Bitget’s incident page (updated 12 October 2026) and The Block say the same. The wallet also warned that nobody needs to “migrate” assets or “verify” a wallet on another site, a common scam after incidents. For the exchange side, read what happened to Bitget’s hot wallets.

Note (12 October 2026): this video says that registering with code 56969 leads to 15 dollar BGB airdrops, and it shows the Welcome Pack next to the code. Bitget doesn’t confirm those airdrops for affiliate codes like 56969, and the Welcome Pack rules don’t list a code. Its reserve and fund figures predate the 24 September 2026 exchange incident.

Does referral code 56969 work in Bitget Wallet?

No. 56969 is our code for the Bitget exchange, and it goes in the Referral code field on the exchange’s sign-up form. It isn’t a Bitget Wallet code.

Bitget Wallet runs its own referral system, and a wallet code doesn’t add a referrer to your exchange account. In the app, tap Referral Center on Home, then “Use referral code”. New users can bind one code within 7 days of sign-up. A bound code can’t be changed (Bitget Wallet referral help, checked 12 October 2026).

On the exchange, 56969 works like this:

  • It links your account to us. We share it through a Bitget affiliate link, so Bitget may pay us part of your fees.
  • No promised fee rebate. We don’t promise to pay back any part of your trading fees.
  • No promised airdrop. Bitget doesn’t confirm its referral BGB airdrops for affiliate codes. BGB is Bitget’s own token.
  • No link to the Welcome Pack. The Welcome Pack of up to 6,200 USDT is Bitget’s own new-user program. It pays vouchers and trading bonuses you can’t withdraw, and its rules don’t list a code (Rewards Center rules, checked 12 October 2026). Sub-accounts, institutional accounts and API traders can’t get it, and UK readers should skip it.

Futures carry a high risk of loss, so don’t trade them just to finish a Welcome Pack task. For an exchange account, use our Bitget sign-up link, which carries 56969. Our guide to Bitget referral code 56969 compares the referral and affiliate programs.

Who can use Bitget Wallet and the Bitget exchange?

They have different country lists. Bitget Wallet bars mostly sanctioned places, while the exchange prohibits many more countries.

Sources: both Terms (checked 12 October 2026), Bitget UK news (November 2024) and the Bitget India FAQ (February 2026).

Good to know: Never use a VPN or someone else’s documents to get around these rules. Bitget Wallet’s Terms ban VPNs for getting around its airdrop geoblocks. The exchange allows one verified account per person, with your own ID (Bitget KYC FAQ, April 2024).

What to do next

  1. Install Bitget Wallet only from its download page or an official store listing, then back up your seed phrase on paper before you add any coins.
  2. Send a small test amount from your exchange on the matching network, and wait for it to arrive before you move the rest.
  3. If you also want a Bitget exchange account, check its prohibited list first, then enter 56969 in the Referral code field at sign-up if you want to support us.

Frequently asked questions

Is Bitget Wallet the same as Bitget?

No. Bitget Wallet is a self-custody wallet app run by BGW Technology Limited, and you hold its keys. The Bitget exchange, run by BTG Technology Holdings Limited, holds your coins for you and requires KYC. They use different apps, logins and referral systems, and Bitget says they run on separate infrastructure.

Is Bitget Wallet safe?

It can be, if you guard your seed phrase and check what you sign. Bitget Wallet can’t recover your keys or reverse a transfer. As BitKeep, a swap bug cost users about 1 million dollars in October 2022, and a fake app cost users about 8 million dollars that December. Bitget says its 2026 exchange incident didn’t affect it.

Where is the official Bitget Wallet download?

Start at web3.bitget.com/en/wallet-download. On Google Play the publisher is Bitget Wallet. On the App Store, the publisher is BitKeep Global Inc., and the app’s name varies by country. The Chrome extension is linked from that page. The Bitget exchange app comes from bitget.com/download. Never install an app file sent in a chat or found through an ad.

Does referral code 56969 work in Bitget Wallet?

No. 56969 is our Bitget exchange code, typed in the Referral code field on the exchange sign-up form. Bitget Wallet has its own referral system, where new users can bind a wallet code within 7 days. On the exchange, 56969 comes with no promised fee rebate or airdrop.

What is Bitget Wallet Web3?

It means using Bitget Wallet to connect to blockchain apps directly: swaps, DApps, Earn products and on-chain trading, all signed with your own keys. Each on-chain action costs a network fee called gas. Check every approval request, because a fake site’s contract can drain the tokens you approve.

Can I use Bitget Wallet in the US or India?

Bitget Wallet’s Terms (22 September 2026) don’t list the US or India as prohibited. The Bitget exchange prohibits US users, and it has paused new sign-ups from India since 6 February 2026, while existing users keep access. We can’t tell you what local law allows, so check it first, and never use a VPN to get around a block.

What happens if I lose my Bitget Wallet seed phrase?

If you lose it along with access to the wallet, nobody can restore it. Bitget Wallet doesn’t store or retrieve seed phrases or private keys. Write the words in order on paper, keep copies in separate safe places, and never type them into a website or chat.

Every rule here comes from Bitget Wallet’s and Bitget’s own pages or the linked news reports. The wallet pages, store listings, Terms and incident statements were checked on 12 and 13 October 2026. The exchange KYC, India and UK rules come from Bitget pages checked in September 2026.
