Bitget Exchange in 2026: What It Is, Fees, App, Safety and Who Can Use It

October 5, 2026 by Michael Johnson

Quick answer
The Bitget exchange is a centralized crypto exchange founded in 2018. Standard fees are 0.1% on spot and 0.02% maker / 0.06% taker on futures. A security incident on 24 September 2026 cost Bitget an estimated 387.5 million dollars. Bitget says user balances were unaffected and that its phased reopening of withdrawals ended on 2 October. It doesn’t serve the US, Canada and other listed countries, and futures are high-risk.

Availability: Bitget’s Terms of Use (updated 15 September 2026) prohibit users in the United States and Canada. The list also includes France, Germany, Austria, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Thailand and other places. New sign-ups from India have been paused since 6 February 2026. UK residents use Bitget’s UK website, where crypto incentives such as refer-a-friend bonuses are banned. Check the Terms of Use (checked 1 October 2026) before you sign up.

What is the Bitget exchange?

The Bitget exchange is a centralized crypto exchange: a company-run platform where you buy, sell and hold cryptocurrency. Bitget keeps the coins in your account in its own wallets. It was established in 2018 (Bitget blog, May 2024).

Bitget calls itself a Universal Exchange (UEX). By its own count, one account gives access to over 2 million crypto tokens plus 500+ tokenized stocks, ETFs, commodities, FX and gold. It also says it serves over 125 million users in 150 regions (Bitget Protection Fund report, September 2026). Treat these as Bitget’s own claims.

Most trading pairs on Bitget are priced in USDT (Tether), a stablecoin, meaning a coin designed to stay at 1 US dollar. BGB (Bitget Token) is Bitget’s own coin.

Who runs Bitget, and where is it based?

BTG Technology Holdings Limited operates Bitget, according to its Terms of Use. Gracy Chen has been CEO since May 2024, after joining in June 2022 as Bitget’s first Managing Director (Bitget blog, May 2024).

In December 2022, Bitget said it had registered in Seychelles and had no specific headquarters (GlobeNewswire, December 2022).

Bitget’s licence page (checked 1 October 2026) lists licences or registrations in nine places. They are Australia, the UK, Switzerland, South Africa, Argentina, Mexico, El Salvador, Mauritius and Georgia’s Tbilisi Free Zone. In the UK, an FCA-authorised firm approves Bitget’s promotions under Section 21 of the financial promotion law. That is not FCA authorisation of Bitget itself.

No EU country is on the list, so Bitget shows no MiCA licence, the licence the EU’s crypto rules require. In Australia, Bitget is registered with AUSTRAC, the anti-money-laundering agency, for exchange services only. ASIC, the markets regulator, warns that Bitget’s crypto futures are unlicensed there (ASIC investor alert).

Bitget products at a glance

Bitget puts spot trading, futures, copy trading, bots, Convert, Earn and P2P in one account. Each has its own main risk.

ProductWhat it doesMain risk
Spot tradingBuy or sell a coin outright through the order book, the list of waiting buy and sell ordersThe price can fall after you buy
FuturesBet on a coin’s price going up (long) or down (short) without owning it, usually with leverage, meaning borrowed moneyLosses grow with leverage, and positions can be liquidated
Copy tradingCopy another trader’s trades. Futures copying starts at 50 USDT, and you can set a fixed leverage of 1x to 10x (copy trading guide, January 2026)You copy their losses too
Trading botsPlace orders by rules you set, with no extra bot fee (bots guide, November 2025)Futures grid bots allow up to 150x leverage
ConvertSwap one coin for another in one step, with no transaction feeCheck the quote before you confirm
EarnInterest or token rewards on coins you holdRates change, and coin prices can fall
P2PBuy or sell crypto with other users for local money, with the seller’s crypto held in escrow (P2P guide, July 2026)Payment providers may charge their own fees
Tokenized stocksTokens linked to US shares, through Stock+ and rToken (Bitget Academy, June 2026)Not offered in every country
Demo tradingPractise futures with virtual funds that can’t be withdrawn (demo guide, December 2025)No real money at risk, but live trading can feel and fill differently

Margin is your own money that backs a futures position. Liquidation means Bitget force-closes the position because your margin can no longer cover the losses, and that margin is lost.

⚠️ Watch out: If you are new, start with spot, Convert or flexible Earn. Futures and leverage can wipe out your margin quickly, so practise in demo mode first and never risk money you can’t afford to lose.

Bitget fees: spot, futures, Convert and withdrawals

Bitget’s standard spot fee is 0.1% for makers and takers. Standard futures fees are 0.02% for makers and 0.06% for takers (Bitget trading fees FAQ, August 2026, checked 1 October 2026). A maker places an order that waits in the order book. A taker fills an order that is already there.

FeeStandard rateNotes
Spot maker / taker0.1% / 0.1%A 1,000 USDT spot trade costs 1 USDT in fees
Spot fees paid in BGBDiscountedSwitch on “Use BGB to offset fees”. Bitget’s BGB guide put the discount at 20% (December 2024). Check the live fee schedule
Futures maker / taker0.02% / 0.06%Actual fees vary by account level
Funding feePaid between long and short traders, usually every 8 hoursPerpetual futures only (futures fee guide, April 2025)
ConvertNo transaction feeSmall balances converted to BGB pay 2%
Crypto depositFreeOnly the blockchain network fee applies
Crypto withdrawalVariesSet by coin, network and congestion, and shown before you confirm

Fees can be lower at Bitget’s seven VIP levels, which depend on monthly trading volume or asset balance (Bitget VIP program, August 2024). A referral code doesn’t change the standard rates.

How do you swap coins with Bitget Convert?

Bitget Convert swaps one coin for another in one step, with zero transaction fees (Bitget Convert guide, August 2026, checked 1 October 2026). It covers more than 800 coins, stablecoins and other assets. Instead of placing an order, you enter an amount and accept a quote.

  1. Open Convert. On the website, choose Trade, then Convert & Block Trade. In the app, tap Trade at the bottom, then Convert at the top.
  2. Pick the pair. Choose the coin you are converting from and the coin you want.
  3. Check and confirm. Enter the amount, check the quote, and confirm before it expires.

In self-service mode, one Convert transaction between BTC, ETH, SOL and USDT can be as large as 3,000,000 USDT.

“Dust” is a tiny leftover balance that is too small to trade. In your spot account, Convert small balance to BGB turns tokens worth less than 10 USDT each into BGB. It charges a 2% fee, and conversions can’t be reversed (small balance guide, November 2025, checked 1 October 2026).

What is Bitget Earn, and how do savings work?

Bitget Earn is a set of products that pay interest or token rewards on coins you hold. The simplest is Simple Earn Flexible, which you can leave at any time. Its APR (annual percentage rate) isn’t fixed and may change with the market (Simple Earn Flexible guide, May 2025, checked 1 October 2026).

  • Daily interest = amount × APR ÷ 365. At a 5% APR, 1,000 USDT would earn about 0.14 USDT a day. The 5% is only an example.
  • Timing. Subscribe before 4:00 PM (UTC+8), and interest starts that day. It is paid to your spot account daily at 12:00 AM (UTC+8).
  • No lock-up. You can redeem at any time without penalties.

Bitget also offers staking, which means putting coins into a pool to earn rewards. PoolX has flexible and fixed-term pools, and you can’t leave a fixed pool before its lock-up ends (PoolX guide, May 2025). Launchpool pays new tokens for staking, with no extra fees. It is open to verified users outside restricted regions such as the US (Launchpool guide, March 2025).

Earn products are not bank deposits. The coin you stake can fall in price, and your coins stay on the exchange, so exchange risk still applies.

Is Bitget safe? What happened in September 2026

Bitget publishes monthly reserve reports and keeps a Protection Fund, but no exchange is free of risk. At 18:31 UTC on 24 September 2026, Bitget detected unauthorized transfers from some of its hot wallets (Bitget security notice, checked 4 October 2026). Hot wallets are the online wallets an exchange uses for day-to-day withdrawals.

Bitget’s first estimate was about 351.6 million dollars, the figure Reuters reported when it covered the incident as a hack (Reuters, 25 September 2026). On 25 September, Bitget raised it to about 387.5 million dollars, adding transfers on Zcash and TRON (Bitget incident update, checked 4 October 2026).

Bitget says the breach reached only part of its hot and warm wallet layers, and its cold wallets, kept offline, stayed secure. Warm wallets sit between the two. On 30 September it published reports by Mandiant and SlowMist, two outside security firms. Both early reports say the attacker reached Bitget’s wallet systems through compromised third-party security products (Bitget update on the reports, checked 4 October 2026). Both investigations are still going on.

Bitget says user balances were unaffected and its Protection Fund covered the loss (Bitget Protection Fund update, 30 September 2026, checked 1 October 2026).

Date (2026)What Bitget reported
24 September, 18:31 UTCUnauthorized transfers detected from some hot wallets, then withdrawals paused. Trading and deposits kept running
25 SeptemberEstimate raised to about 387.5 million dollars; weakness fixed
28 to 30 SeptemberWithdrawals reopened for BTC, then ETH, then USDT, on listed networks
29 SeptemberProof of Reserves update: 131% total reserve ratio
30 SeptemberOutside reports published. Protection Fund back above 300 million dollars
2 OctoberPhased plan complete: all other tokens, fiat money and P2P reopened
From 2 OctoberSome single networks paused, mostly for wallet maintenance. Many reopened within a day, and a few were still paused on 4 October

Sources: Bitget’s security notice, phased withdrawal plan, completion notice and maintenance notices, checked 4 October 2026.

An exchange account is not a bank account. Keep only what you need for trading on any one exchange, and move long-term holdings to a wallet you control.

Good to know: Ignore any message that offers a “refund” for the incident or asks you to send crypto first. Bitget says it never sends unsolicited messages asking for personal information or funds (Bitget official channel check, July 2025). Its staff never ask for your password (Bitget anti-phishing guide, January 2025).

Proof of Reserves: what Bitget’s 131% means

Proof of Reserves (PoR) is a report that compares the coins an exchange holds with the coins its users have deposited. A 131% ratio means Bitget reported 131 dollars in value for every 100 dollars of user assets it counted.

AssetReserve ratio, 29 September 2026
Total131%
BTC142%
ETH110%
USDT107%
USDC154%

Source: Bitget Proof of Reserves, checked 1 October 2026.

Bitget has published a PoR every month since December 2022. Its September 2026 report, the 46th, showed 135% and widened coverage from 4 to 19 assets (Bitget PoR update, September 2026). The 29 September snapshot, Bitget’s 47th update, showed a lower total. Bitget says the incident did not affect its reserves (PoR update no. 47, checked 4 October 2026). You can check that your own balance is included with MerkleValidator, an open-source tool on GitHub. Still, a PoR is a snapshot Bitget publishes itself, so treat it as one signal among several.

What is the Bitget Protection Fund?

The Bitget Protection Fund is a reserve Bitget set up in 2022 to cover users after platform-wide incidents. It started at 300 million dollars, backed by 5,500 BTC. Bitget says it is committed to keeping the fund above 300 million dollars (Bitget PoR update, September 2026).

Users can claim if their accounts were compromised, or their assets stolen or lost, in a platform-wide event they didn’t cause. Bitget assesses each claim itself (Protection Fund page, checked 4 October 2026).

  • August 2026. The fund averaged 382 million dollars, between 345.3 and 441.5 million (August report, checked 1 October 2026).
  • 24 to 30 September. Bitget said the fund held over 464 million dollars when the incident began (Bitget security notice). It used the fund to cover the loss and refilled it above 300 million dollars by 30 September. In between, Bloomberg reported that the fund’s wallets had fallen below 200 million dollars (Bloomberg via Claims Journal, 29 September 2026, checked 4 October 2026). It also reported net customer withdrawals of 463 million dollars in 24 hours.
  • 4 October. The fund page showed about 313 million dollars, held as 3,705 BTC.

The page lists the fund’s wallet addresses, so you can check it on the public blockchain. Its value moves with the BTC price. It is Bitget’s own money, not government deposit insurance.

Can you withdraw money from Bitget?

Yes. You can withdraw crypto to another wallet or exchange, or sell crypto to other users for local money through P2P. After the incident, Bitget reopened withdrawals in phases: BTC on 28 September, ETH on 29 September and USDT on 30 September. On 2 October 2026, Bitget said all other tokens, fiat money and P2P had reopened (Bitget completion notice, checked 4 October 2026). Single networks can still pause for wallet maintenance, so check the coin’s withdrawal page first.

  • Fees. The withdrawal fee depends on coin, network and congestion. USDT on TRC-20 is generally cheaper than on ERC-20 (Bitget fee FAQ, January 2025).
  • Limits. After KYC, the daily limit is 3 million USDT at VIP 0 and 20 million at VIP 7 (Bitget KYC FAQ, April 2024).
  • P2P sales. Offers come from individual users, not from Bitget. You need KYC and your 2FA code to release coins (P2P guide, July 2026). Release them only after the money shows in your own bank or wallet account, not on a screenshot.
⚠️ Watch out: When you withdraw or deposit, pick the same network on both sides. The network is the blockchain the coin travels on, for example USDT on TRC-20 (the Tron network) or ERC-20 (Ethereum). Some coins also need a memo or tag, an extra ID that tells the receiving platform which account the coins are for. Send a small test amount first.

Who can’t use Bitget? Countries and regions

Bitget doesn’t accept users from its prohibited list, which includes the United States and Canada. Thailand appears in the 15 September 2026 version of the list, though the August 2026 version didn’t name it. A referral code doesn’t change any of this.

Good to know: Never use a VPN or someone else’s documents to get around these rules. Bitget’s Terms allow an individual only one account, and its identity check needs your own valid ID (Bitget KYC FAQ, April 2024).

Do you need KYC on Bitget?

Yes. KYC (Know Your Customer) is the identity check an exchange runs before you can use it fully. Bitget has required it for core services since 1 January 2024 (Bitget KYC FAQ, April 2024).

  • Documents. Upload an unedited photo of a government ID that clearly shows your name and date of birth (Bitget KYC guide).
  • In the app. Open your profile, tap ID verification, then Verify. Choose your country and document, add the photo, and complete a face scan.
  • Time. Reviews usually take up to 60 minutes.
  • One account per person. You can verify only one Bitget account, with up to 5 attempts in 24 hours.
  • Re-checks. Since September 2026, Bitget has emailed some users to confirm their ID. If you get that email, you have 30 days before trading and withdrawals may be restricted (KYC re-verification notice, checked 1 October 2026).

Check any such email for your anti-phishing code before you click anything.

Bitget app: where to get it and how to set it up

Get the Bitget app from Bitget’s own download page, Google Play or the Apple App Store. Bitget says to download its apps only from those places (Bitget anti-phishing guide, January 2025). On 1 October 2026, Bitget’s download page linked to both stores, an Android APK and desktop apps for Mac and Windows.

  1. Sign up. Install the app, tap Sign up, and use your email or mobile number. Choose a password you don’t use anywhere else. You must be at least 18.
  2. Verify your identity from your profile, as described in the KYC section.
  3. Turn on 2FA. Two-factor authentication asks for a second code from your phone when you log in or withdraw.
  4. Set an anti-phishing code. In Profile, then Security, choose 8 to 32 digits. Bitget shows them in its genuine emails (anti-phishing code guide, September 2024).
  5. Set a fund code. This extra password protects withdrawals, P2P trades and security changes (Bitget fund code guide, January 2025).
  6. Make a small first trade. On the Spot tab, a market order buys now. A limit order waits for the price you set.

Bitget doesn’t confirm those milestone rewards for affiliate codes like 56969. The video also presents the Welcome Pack right after the code step, but the Welcome Pack rules don’t list a code. Its reserve and Protection Fund figures date from before the 24 September incident, and the safety sections above have newer ones.

Bitget exchange APK download: is it safe?

It is safe only when the APK comes from Bitget itself. An APK is an Android app file that you install outside Google Play. Bitget’s own download page offers one, listed as version 2.94.3 on 1 October 2026.

An APK from another website may not be Bitget’s file. Bitget says funds lost to phishing are generally not recoverable (Bitget anti-phishing guide).

  • Type the address yourself. Bitget’s official domain is www.bitget.com, so don’t follow an ad or a chat link.
  • Prefer the store. If Google Play works in your country, install from there.
  • Compare the version with the one shown on Bitget’s download page.
  • Check after you log in that Bitget’s emails show your anti-phishing code.

Bitget pros and cons

Bitget suits people outside its prohibited list who want many products in one account and accept exchange risk.

ProsCons

Official app stores, an official APK and desktop appsWelcome rewards are vouchers and trading bonuses, not cash

Does Bitget give new users a welcome bonus?

Yes. Bitget’s Welcome Pack is worth up to 6,200 USDT in total, paid as vouchers and trading bonuses after you complete tasks. UK readers should skip it, because UK rules ban crypto incentives like this.

Bitget’s Rewards Center rules (checked 1 October 2026) list two parts. A new user who invites one friend gets a 200 USDT Welcome Bonus. New users can also earn up to 6,000 USDT in challenge rewards by depositing and trading within 7 days of registration.

  • Claim on time. After a promotion ends, Bitget runs a 3-day monitoring period. You then have 2 days to claim by hand in the Rewards Center.
  • Coupons, not cash. Claimed rewards go to the Coupons Center. Futures trading bonuses can’t be withdrawn or transferred, and withdrawing funds cancels unused bonuses (futures bonus rules, December 2025).
  • Vouchers stay on Bitget. Only profits made with position vouchers can be withdrawn (voucher guide, January 2025).
  • Some accounts are excluded. Sub-accounts, institutional accounts and API traders can’t get rewards.

“Up to 6,200 USDT” is a ceiling across every task. If a task asks for futures volume, don’t trade futures just to earn it: fees and losses can cost more than the reward.

The Welcome Pack is Bitget’s own program, and its rules don’t list a referral code as a condition. Our code guide explains how referral and affiliate codes differ on Bitget.

How to sign up on Bitget with code 56969

Our Bitget referral code is 56969. Type it in the Referral code field on the sign-up form, before you submit. We found no Bitget exchange page that describes adding a code after sign-up.

  1. Check your country against the table above.
  2. Open the sign-up page. Type www.bitget.com yourself, or use our Bitget sign-up link, which carries 56969.
  3. Register with your email or mobile number, and check that the Referral code field shows 56969.
  4. Secure the account. Complete KYC, then set up 2FA, an anti-phishing code and a fund code.

What the code does and doesn’t do:

  • It links your account to us. We share 56969 through a Bitget affiliate link. Bitget may pay us part of the fees you pay anyway.
  • No promised fee rebate. The code doesn’t change Bitget’s standard fees. 56969 comes with no promised fee rebate, meaning part of your fee paid back to you.
  • No promised airdrop. Bitget describes its Referral Program’s $15 BGB airdrops for codes from a regular user’s Referral page. It doesn’t confirm them for affiliate codes, so we don’t promise them.
  • Exchange only. 56969 is for the Bitget exchange, not the separate Bitget Wallet app, a self-custody wallet where you hold your own keys.

Our Bitget referral code 56969 guide compares the two programs side by side.

What to do next

  1. Check Bitget’s prohibited list, then install the app from Bitget’s download page or an official app store. Enter 56969 in the Referral code field at sign-up if you want to support us.
  2. Complete KYC, then turn on 2FA, set an anti-phishing code and add a fund code before your first deposit.
  3. Start with spot, Convert or flexible Earn and a small test deposit on the correct network. Leave futures alone until you understand leverage and liquidation.

Only from Bitget itself. Type www.bitget.com yourself and use its download page, or install from Google Play or the App Store. Bitget says to download its apps only from those places. An APK from another website may be modified, and funds lost to phishing are generally not recoverable.

What is the Bitget referral code?

Our Bitget referral code is 56969. Enter it in the Referral code field before you submit the sign-up form. We share it through an affiliate link: it comes with no promised fee rebate, and Bitget doesn’t confirm its referral BGB airdrops for affiliate codes. The Welcome Pack doesn’t list a code as a condition.

Every Bitget rule and number in this guide comes from Bitget’s own pages or the news and regulator pages linked where it appears. The fees, Welcome Pack, reserves and prohibited list were re-checked on 1 October 2026, and the incident updates on 4 October 2026.
