Disclosure: 6969 is our CoinEx referral code, and our videos on this page still mention it. CoinEx stopped all referral payouts on 15 September 2026, so we earn nothing from CoinEx.
Is CoinEx shutting down? The closure timeline
Yes. On 15 September 2026, CoinEx said it would close in stages. The platform shuts for good at 02:00 UTC on 22 December 2026 (CoinEx closure notice, checked 12 October 2026).
CoinEx blamed a long market slump, falling trading volume and rising compliance costs. Reuters reported the closure the same day (Reuters, 15 September 2026). CoinEx says user assets are fully backed and available to withdraw.
Two terms first. USDT (Tether) is a stablecoin, a coin designed to stay at 1 US dollar. CET (CoinEx Token) is CoinEx’s own coin.
| Date (UTC) | What changed |
|---|---|
| 15 September 2026 | New sign-ups stopped. Referral rewards and unpaid campaign rewards stopped. Futures went reduce-only, so traders could only close positions |
| 22 September 2026 | All non-spot services closed. Open futures positions were settled at the index price, CoinEx’s reference price. On-chain deposits stopped, except CET |
| 29 September 2026 | Spot trading, meaning buying and selling coins outright, ended. CoinEx began selling non-USDT coins for USDT. Leftover CET was bought back at 0.005 USDT. CoinEx Smart Chain, its own blockchain, shut down with its cross-chain bridge, a tool for moving coins between blockchains |
| 22 December 2026, 02:00 | Withdrawals end and the platform closes. Unwithdrawn USDT moves into custody |
| 22 August 2028 | Last day to claim assets from custody |

CoinEx calls this notice its final announcement.
How do you withdraw from CoinEx before 22 December 2026?
Log in, open Assets, then Withdraw, and send your coins to a wallet or exchange account you control. Do it early, because CoinEx warns that networks can get busy close to the deadline (closure notice).
These steps follow CoinEx’s web withdrawal guide (updated September 2026, checked 12 October 2026):
- Open the real site. Type www.coinex.com yourself and log in. Click Assets, then Withdraw.
- Pick the coin, the network and Normal Transfer. The network is the blockchain the coin travels on. For USDT, CoinEx lists BSC, TRON and Ethereum. Choose Normal Transfer, which sends coins on the blockchain. Don’t use Inter-User Transfer to another CoinEx account, because that account also closes on 22 December.
- Paste a matching address. Get a deposit address for the same coin on the same network from the receiving wallet or exchange.
- Enter the amount. It must cover the minimum withdrawal plus the fee, which is the network’s miner fee (withdrawal FAQ, March 2026).
- Confirm by email within 30 minutes. A withdrawal you don’t confirm within 24 hours is cancelled.
Got a withdrawal email you didn’t request? CoinEx’s guide says to change your login password at once and contact customer support.
What is left in your CoinEx account now?
Mostly USDT, plus any coins still waiting to be sold. From 02:00 UTC on 29 September 2026, CoinEx began selling non-USDT coins on outside markets. It credits the USDT from the net proceeds in batches, which your transaction history shows (closure notice).
- Coins with no outside market are being delisted, meaning removed from the exchange, step by step. CoinEx no longer maintains their wallets. It asked holders to withdraw them before 29 September and says it is no longer responsible for them.
- CET left in accounts on 29 September was bought back at 0.005 USDT per token and paid out as USDT.
Withdrawal limits and security settings
Unverified accounts can withdraw up to 10,000 USD per 24 hours and 50,000 USD per 30 days. A Primary ID check raises the daily limit to 1,000,000 USD and removes the 30-day limit (withdrawal limit guide, June 2026, checked 12 October 2026).
So an unverified account can move at most 50,000 USD in 30 days, and a larger balance needs several weeks or a Primary ID check. ID reviews take 1 to 3 business days (Primary ID guide, February 2026). The closure notice doesn’t say whether new ID checks are still reviewed, so start early.
Don’t change your security settings just before you withdraw. Changing or resetting 2FA (two-factor authentication, the second login code) blocks withdrawals for 24 hours (CoinEx 2FA guide, June 2026).
Can’t log in or withdraw?
Start any reset now, because some resets need a manual review. The reset needs your email and password. Forgot the password too? Use Forgot Password first, which also asks for documents. If your authenticator app is lost, CoinEx’s reset asks 4 security questions, with only 3 attempts. After that, you must send documents for manual review, or complete a face check if your ID is verified (TOTP reset guide, June 2026, checked 13 October 2026).
After a reset, the 24-hour withdrawal block above applies. Contact CoinEx only through a ticket on its official site or at [email protected], the address its Official Verification Channel page lists (checked 13 October 2026).
What happens to money left on CoinEx after 22 December?
It goes into custody and shrinks each month. After 02:00 UTC on 22 December 2026, CoinEx moves unwithdrawn USDT into independent custody, meaning a separate custodian holds it. It charges a custody fee of 5% of that balance every month (closure notice).
- How to claim. Claims go to [email protected], under procedures CoinEx says it will publish later. You may need to verify your identity again.
- Fake claim messages. CoinEx says claim steps will come later, but also that it will publish no new announcements. So check any claim email in the Official Verification Channel, and write to [email protected] yourself. The custody fee is charged on the held balance, so never send crypto or pay anyone separately to release it.
- Final deadline. Claims close on 22 August 2028. CoinEx says assets still unclaimed then will be handled under applicable law.
At 5% of the original balance per month, 20 months of fees add up to the whole balance. That matches the 20 months between 22 December 2026 and the claim deadline (our arithmetic). Withdrawing before 22 December is the only way to avoid the fee.
What is the CoinEx exchange?
The CoinEx exchange is a centralized crypto exchange: a company that holds users’ coins and matches their buy and sell orders. It went live on 22 December 2017 and is now closing (CoinEx closure notice, 15 September 2026).
Before the closure, one account covered spot trading, futures, Swap, Earn, loans and P2P (buying from other users with local money). The table below shows what happened to each. Most pairs were priced in USDT. CET was issued in January 2018 (CET introduction, June 2026).
The standard VIP 0 spot fee was 0.2% for makers and takers, or 0.16% when paying with CET. A maker adds an order to the order book, and a taker fills one (CoinEx VIP fees, checked 12 October 2026).
On 12 October 2026, the homepage still listed more than 600 coins. But it showed a 24-hour trading volume of 0.00 USD, next to a banner about the closure (CoinEx homepage, checked 12 October 2026).
What happened to CoinEx futures, Swap, copy trading, Earn and airdrops?
All of them have ended. Copy trading closed in June 2026, and every other trading product shut down between 15 and 29 September 2026.
| Product | What it was | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| Spot trading and Swap | Buying coins outright, and Swap, an instant convert tool under Spot | All spot trading ended on 29 September 2026 |
| Futures | Contracts that bet on a coin’s price going up or down without owning it, with 1x to 100x leverage (borrowed money) | Closed. See below |
| Copy trading | Automatically copying a lead trader’s futures trades | Closed. See below |
| Margin and loans | Trading or borrowing with borrowed funds | No new loans from 15 September. Unpaid loans’ collateral was processed from 22 September |
| Earn and staking | Savings, staking and Dual Investment, a fixed-term product with no capital protection | No new subscriptions from 15 September. All products were redeemed on 22 September |
| AMM liquidity and OnChain trading | Liquidity pools, and CoinEx’s OnChain service for trading tokens on blockchains | OnChain ended on 22 September, and leftover assets were sold. AMM liquidity went back to Spot Accounts on 29 September |
| Strategic trading | Auto-Invest plans and Spot or Futures Grid bots | No new strategies from 15 September. All stopped on 22 September |
| Airdrop Station and Reward Center | Token airdrops and fee cashback tasks | Rewards from ongoing campaigns stopped being paid on 15 September |
| Fiat and P2P | Buying crypto with local money | No new orders from 15 September. Ended on 22 September |
| CoinEx Wallet and CoinEx Vault | Services CoinEx describes as independent of the exchange | Not part of the closure, according to CoinEx |

CoinEx futures
CoinEx futures went reduce-only on 15 September 2026 and closed on 22 September, and open positions were settled at the index price. Futures were always high-risk. With leverage, a small price move could trigger liquidation. That is when CoinEx force-closes a position and the margin backing it is lost (CoinEx futures guide, September 2026).
CoinEx Swap
CoinEx Swap stopped by 29 September 2026 at the latest, when all spot trading closed. It converted one coin to another from your Spot Account, with no order to place.
CoinEx copy trading
CoinEx copy trading ended on 25 June 2026, months before the closure. CoinEx closed all open copy positions at the market price and returned the funds to users’ main accounts (copy trading notice, June 2026).
CoinEx airdrops
Airdrop Station was CoinEx’s page for token giveaways tied to quizzes and tasks, and it required Primary ID verification (withdrawal limit guide, June 2026). CoinEx’s closure notice says rewards from ongoing or unsettled campaigns will no longer be paid, so don’t expect a CoinEx airdrop now.
In this video
Note (12 October 2026): this video came out on 10 October 2026 but doesn’t mention CoinEx’s closure. Signing up or using code 6969 is no longer possible. The video also says 6969 earns you part of your fees. CoinEx’s rules said referees could earn part of their own trading fees in CET, but never said how much. All referral payouts stopped on 15 September 2026.
CoinEx scams and fake Telegram accounts during the shutdown
Treat any new “CoinEx” message about the closure with suspicion. CoinEx says its 15 September notice is its final announcement. Any later “new announcement”, “supplementary rules” or “policy adjustment” in its name is fraudulent (closure notice).
The same notice sets these rules:
- No requests for secrets. CoinEx will never ask for your private keys, passwords or verification codes.
- No transfers to “release” money. CoinEx will never ask you to send assets to any address for “unfreezing”, “compensation” or “airdrops”.
- Few official channels. Reminders come only by email, in-site message and CoinEx’s verified social media accounts.
On Telegram, CoinEx’s official English group is t.me/CoinExOfficialEN. CoinEx staff never message you first. They never ask for withdrawal fees, margin deposits or “risk control review” fees in private chats (Telegram scam guide, July 2026, checked 12 October 2026).
You can check a link, email address or Telegram account in CoinEx’s Official Verification Channel. It sits in the website footer, and in the app under Profile, Security Settings, Others (August 2026).
- Type the address. Fake CoinEx sites can appear as sponsored results at the top of Google (phishing website guide, July 2026).
- Check the app. CoinEx names CnEx, CoinEx (Online beta) and CoinEx-pro as reported fake apps. The real iOS app’s developer is Coinex Global Limited (fake app guide, July 2026).
- Claim emails. After 22 December, check any “claim procedure” email in the Official Verification Channel.
Proof of Reserves: what CoinEx’s last report shows
CoinEx’s last Proof of Reserves snapshot, taken on 14 September 2026, showed reserves above 100% for all 6 coins in the report. Other coins were not in the report. A Proof of Reserves (PoR) compares the coins an exchange holds with the coins its users have on it.
| Coin | Reserve ratio, 14 September 2026 |
|---|---|
| BTC | 105.6% |
| ETH | 100.58% |
| USDT | 109.13% |
| USDC | 101.53% |
| CET | 107.42% |
| DOGE | 100.92% |
Source: CoinEx Proof of Reserve page, snapshot 07:00 UTC on 14 September 2026, checked 12 October 2026.
A 109.13% ratio means CoinEx reported 109.13 USDT in its wallets for every 100 USDT owed to users. The wallets held about 430 million US dollars, counting hot and cold wallets and staked funds.
CoinEx uses a Merkle Tree, a data structure that lets each user check that their own balance was counted. Still, a PoR is a snapshot CoinEx publishes itself. It doesn’t cover changes after the snapshot, and it isn’t insurance.
The 2023 CoinEx hack: what happened
CoinEx was hacked on 12 September 2023. A leaked private key let attackers drain several hot wallets (CoinEx hack update, 22 September 2023, checked 12 October 2026). Hot wallets are the online wallets an exchange uses for daily withdrawals.
- Cold wallets were safe. Assets in CoinEx’s offline cold wallets were not affected.
- Losses were covered. CoinEx said its User Asset Security Foundation would bear the losses and that user assets were not affected.
- Coins taken. The list included 231 BTC, 4,953 ETH, 12,625,364 XRP and 137,127,860 TRX, among others.
- Service came back. After rebuilding its wallet system, CoinEx had reopened deposits and withdrawals for 190 coins by 22 September 2023.
CoinEx’s update listed coin amounts, not a dollar total. Outside security firms estimated about 43 million dollars (PeckShield), then 53 million dollars (CertiK) (BleepingComputer, 13 September 2023).
After a security upgrade finished on 23 October 2023, CoinEx used multi-signature wallets, which need several approvals to move funds (security upgrade notice, November 2024). It also set up the CoinEx Shield Fund, which its blog says gets 10% of trading fees (CoinEx blog, checked 12 October 2026).
Who runs CoinEx?
Haipo Yang is CoinEx’s founder and CEO, according to Decrypt (Decrypt on Yahoo Finance, 16 September 2026). He explained the closure in a post on X. Reuters describes CoinEx as Hong Kong-based (Reuters, 15 September 2026).
Yang wrote that the security and compliance risks of running an exchange had become hard to contain.
In June 2026, the research firm TRM Labs named CoinEx as the largest single counterparty of Nobitex, meaning the platform Nobitex traded with most. Nobitex is an Iranian exchange that the US had sanctioned that month. CoinEx said it never had a commercial relationship with Iranian government-linked entities or domestic Iranian exchanges. It added that it stopped onboarding Iranian users after the sanctions (Reuters, 15 September 2026).
Can you use CoinEx in the UK or the US?
No. CoinEx says it stopped all new registrations on 15 September 2026. The UK and the US were on CoinEx’s banned list even before the closure (Prohibited Jurisdictions, updated 3 September 2026, checked 12 October 2026).
| Where you live | Can you use CoinEx? |
|---|---|
| United States, Canada, United Kingdom | No. All three are on the prohibited list |
| EEA (27 EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) | No. CoinEx ended EEA services on or before 1 July 2026 because of MiCA, the EU’s crypto rules. Withdrawals stayed open |
| Switzerland, Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Kazakhstan | No, prohibited list |
| Iran, North Korea, Cuba and places under full sanctions | No, prohibited list |

How to export your CoinEx tax report before it closes
A CoinEx tax report is a data export: you download your history as files for tax software or an adviser. CoinEx says it gives no tax, legal or investment advice (How to Export Tax Data, updated September 2026, checked 12 October 2026).
- Log in at www.coinex.com and open Assets, then History.
- On the Spot tab, click Export Data.
- Choose the time range, account type and asset type, then submit.
- Wait for the email or in-site message, then download the file.
The download holds 4 CSV files, which are spreadsheet files, for the Spot, Margin, Futures and Financial accounts. Each download link works for 7 days. You can export 6 times per calendar month, and CoinEx keeps only the most recent 50,000 records.
You can also create a Read-Only API key under API Management, which lets tax software read your history without trading. Export before 22 December 2026, and keep the records of the forced sales from 29 September too. The forced sales and the CET buyback may count as sales for tax, so ask a tax adviser.
Is CoinEx a DEX or a CEX?
CoinEx is a CEX, a centralized exchange. A company held users’ deposits in its own wallets and ran the order book, the list of waiting buy and sell orders.
A DEX, or decentralized exchange, works differently: trades run through code on a blockchain, and you keep your own keys. CoinEx’s AMM markets also ran inside the exchange. Coins from a shared pool were turned into orders on the normal order book (CoinEx AMM guide, August 2026).
CoinEx Wallet is a separate wallet app, launched in May 2019 (CoinEx blog, checked 12 October 2026). CoinEx says the closure doesn’t cover CoinEx Wallet or CoinEx Vault. CoinEx Smart Chain, its own blockchain, shut down on 29 September 2026.
CoinEx vs Binance, KuCoin and Coinbase: what still matters
There is nothing left to compare for new users: CoinEx stopped accepting them on 15 September 2026. If you are moving USDT off CoinEx, check three things on the receiving exchange’s own pages:
- It serves your country. Read its terms or restricted-country list first.
- It supports your coin on the same network. Match the network you pick on CoinEx.
- Its fees. Fee pages differ in how they show costs.
We don’t rank exchanges. Each one has its own rules, risks and country list.
CoinEx vs Binance
There is no choice to make between them now: CoinEx ended trading on 29 September 2026. Binance’s own fee page lists 0.100% maker and 0.100% taker on spot for a Regular User (Binance fee schedule, checked 12 October 2026).
CoinEx vs KuCoin
Only the receiving side matters now. KuCoin’s spot fees depend on VIP level and on the pair’s class, A, B or C. Its public page lists only VIP 5 to VIP 12, so log in to see your own rate (KuCoin VIP page, checked 12 October 2026).
Coinbase vs CoinEx
This only matters if you are moving coins to Coinbase. Simple buys on Coinbase include a spread, a markup built into the price, and fees show on the order preview (Coinbase fee disclosures, checked 12 October 2026).
Can you still sign up with CoinEx referral code 6969?
No. CoinEx stopped new sign-ups and referral rewards on 15 September 2026, so code 6969 no longer does anything (closure notice).
The sign-up page still loads, and on 12 October 2026 it still showed a 100 USDT gift banner (CoinEx sign-up page, checked 12 October 2026). Don’t rely on it: CoinEx’s notice says sign-ups ended.
CoinEx also stopped on-chain deposits on 22 September, so don’t send coins to an old CoinEx deposit address.
What to do next
- Type www.coinex.com yourself, log in, and check your Spot Account and transaction history. Coins may now show as USDT.
- Withdraw your USDT with Normal Transfer before 02:00 UTC on 22 December 2026. Pick the same network on both sides and send a small test amount first.
- Export your transaction history for your tax records, and ignore any message that asks you to send crypto to “unfreeze” or “recover” your balance.
More CoinEx videos
Short videos from the same series. Many mention signing up or code 6969, which no longer applies. YouTube titles are written for search. The newcomer rewards they mention were CoinEx’s own offer, and its task pages listed no code condition. All CoinEx rewards and referral payouts stopped on 15 September 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Is CoinEx shutting down?
Yes. CoinEx announced on 15 September 2026 that it is ceasing operations. New sign-ups and referral rewards stopped that day, and all trading ended on 29 September. Withdrawals stay open until 02:00 UTC on 22 December 2026. After that, unwithdrawn USDT goes into custody with a monthly fee of 5% of the 22 December balance.
When is the CoinEx withdrawal deadline?
Withdrawals end at 02:00 UTC on 22 December 2026. Don’t wait for the last days: CoinEx warns that networks can get congested near the deadline. Use Normal Transfer, pick the same network on CoinEx and on the receiving wallet, and send a small test amount first.
Is CoinEx a good exchange?
It doesn’t matter for new users now: CoinEx says it stopped sign-ups on 15 September 2026, and it ended trading on 29 September. Existing users should withdraw before 02:00 UTC on 22 December 2026, picking the same network on both sides and sending a small test amount first.
What happens to money left on CoinEx after 22 December 2026?
CoinEx moves unwithdrawn USDT into independent custody and charges 5% of the 22 December balance every month. Claims go to [email protected], and CoinEx says claim steps will follow. Check any claim email in its Official Verification Channel and never pay anyone separately to release funds. Claims close on 22 August 2028.
Can I still sign up on CoinEx with a referral code?
No. CoinEx stopped new sign-ups and referral rewards on 15 September 2026, so code 6969 no longer does anything. The sign-up page still loads, but don’t register or deposit: on-chain deposits ended on 22 September and trading ended on 29 September.
Is CoinEx safe?
CoinEx’s last Proof of Reserves snapshot, from 14 September 2026, showed more than 100% for the 6 coins it covered, including BTC and USDT. That is CoinEx’s own report, not insurance. Its hot wallets were hacked in September 2023, and CoinEx said it covered the losses. The main risks now are missing the 22 December deadline and fake “CoinEx” messages.
What happened to my CET on CoinEx?
CoinEx bought back CET at 0.005 USDT per token from 15 to 29 September 2026. On 29 September it converted any CET still in accounts at that price and credited the USDT to Spot Accounts. Withdraw that USDT before 02:00 UTC on 22 December 2026.
Every CoinEx rule and date here comes from CoinEx’s own pages or the news reports linked where it appears. We re-checked the key CoinEx pages on 12 October 2026 and the 2FA reset pages on 13 October 2026.
